Land Clearing

Trees, brush, stumps and roots removed and the site rough-graded, whether you are opening a wooded lot for a new home or taking back acreage the woods have claimed.

  • Residential lots and homesites
  • Lot and acreage clearing
  • Brush and underbrush cleanup

Forestry Mulching

One machine cuts standing brush and small trees and grinds them into mulch that stays on the ground. No burn piles, no hauling, and far less disturbance to the soil.

  • Trails, lanes and fence lines
  • Overgrown lot reclamation
  • Selective clearing around keeper trees

Excavation

Basements and footings, utility and drainage trenches, driveways and site grading, dug to your builder's plans by the person who quoted the job.

  • Foundation and basement digs
  • Trenching for water, electric and drain tile
  • Pads, driveways and final grade

Retaining Walls

Walls built the way an excavator thinks: compacted base, real drainage and proper backfill first, so they stay straight through Michigan winters.

  • New wall installation
  • Repair and replacement of failing walls
  • Lakefront and sloped yards

How it works

From the first call to the final walk-through

  1. Free on-site estimate

Call or send a message and Michael walks the property with you. You get a written estimate, and financing can be added for qualifying projects.

  2. Planning and utility locates

The work area is marked and keeper trees are flagged. For any digging, buried lines are located through MISS DIG 811 before a bucket touches the ground.

  3. Equipment mobilization

The right Bobcat machine and attachment for the job, sized to your site so it can get in, work efficiently and limit ruts.

  4. Clearing, digging or building

The owner is on the machine. Mulching grinds brush in place, excavation is dug to plan depth, walls go up on a prepared base. Check in with Michael at any point.

  5. Cleanup and final walk-through

The site is cleaned up and the finish grade smoothed. You walk the property with Michael and get before-and-after photos of the job.

Frequently asked questions

It depends mainly on how dense the vegetation is, the size of the trees, the terrain and how far the site is from Montrose. Light brush mulches much faster than a thick stand of mature trees, so two acres can price very differently. The best way to get a real number is a free on-site estimate.

Traditional clearing cuts trees, piles them, then burns or hauls the debris and often pulls stumps. Forestry mulching grinds trees and brush where they stand into a layer of mulch that protects the soil, leaves no burn piles and disturbs the ground far less. If you are building, stumps may still need to come out and the site graded, and we handle that too.

We mark the homesite, driveway and keeper trees, clear the building footprint and drive, remove stumps where the foundation and driveway will sit, and grade the site so water drains away from the house. Because Onyx also handles excavation, the foundation can be dug right after clearing.

Yes. The mulcher takes out brush, saplings and invasive growth beneath the canopy while working around the mature trees you want to keep, leaving open, walkable woods. It is a popular choice for hunting land, horse properties and wooded backyards.
